3 Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on 280 Freeway in San Francisco

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 27, 2024) — Three people were injured in a wrong-way accident on the 280 Freeway near Geneva Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-car crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday. For an unknown reason, a driver was heading northbound in the southbound lanes near the Geneva Avenue on-ramp. Subsequently, the wrong-way driver collided with two other vehicles, leaving three people hospitalized.
 
Soon after, authorities responded to two vehicles with major damage on the southbound lanes. From there, CHP, fire units and ambulances surrounded the scene and extricated one person from a silver sedan. Due to the crash, commuters faced closure on the left and center lanes until 4:00 p.m.
 
Authorities did not say what caused the accident, but an investigation is underway.
