3 Hospitalized in Rollover Crash Following High-Speed Pursuit with Border Patrol on Shasta Way in East County

 
EAST COUNTY, CA (April 6, 2023) — Three people reported injuries in an overturned accident following a high-speed chase with border patrol officials on Shasta Way near Highway 49.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the high-speed pursuit happened around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. Border patrol agents tried to stop a woman driving a blue Mazda MPV near Olde Highway 80 and McCain Valley Road. Due to a possible immigrant-related violation, border patrol agents continued to pursue the woman, but the 23-year-old San Diego resident refused to stop. She fled through several roads before ending up on Shasta Way near Highway 94.
 
Subsequently, while driving on the dirt portion of the street, she lost control and coasted through a concrete ditch before crashing into a steel fence. The car ended up overturning before coming to a stop on its wheels.
 
Five people, including the driver, occupied the vehicle at the time. The woman, including a 25- and 27-year-old man inside the vehicle suffered injuries. A 24- and 39-year-old man was also in the vehicle but declined medical care. All men claimed to be from Mexico.
 
Paramedics took all three patients to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment.
