3 Hurt After 2-Vehicle Crash Sends Vehicle Crashing Into Apartment at Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA, CA (April 24, 2024) — Three people were injured in a 2-car accident that sent one car crashing into an apartment at Placentia Avenue and Center Street.

According to the Costa Mesa police, the two-car crash happened Saturday around 1:30 p.m. For an unknown reason, a Honda driver heading west on Center Street failed to yield to the right of way of a southbound black Mercedes-Benz SUV. Subsequently, the Honda broadsided the Mercedes, pushing it into the southwest corner of the intersection and hitting an apartment building.

Shortly after, Costa Mesa Fire arrived and took the man in the Mercedes to a trauma center for moderate injuries. The Honda driver also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and an apartment tenant inside the building reported minor wounds.

Due to the incident, a licensed contractor responded to assess the damage and boarded up the apartment for safety precautions.

Authorities did not say what caused the crash, but they plan to look into the possibilities.
