Fresno Police Car Collides with SUV on Belmont Avenue Sending 3 People to Hospital

 
FRESNO, CA (May 23, 2023) – Three people were hospitalized after a two-car accident on Belmont Avenue in Central Fresno late Saturday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on May 20, at Fulton Street. According to the Fresno Police Department, a woman was driving a white Lexus SUV on westbound Belmont Avenue and in the process of making a left turn to go south on Fulton Street when the police car collided with her SUV.
 
The police car was going eastbound on Belmont and responding to a call without siren and flashing lights.
 
Both vehicles had a green light. However, it was unclear if the Lexus had a protected green arrow when the woman began making a left turn. It also unknown how fast the police car was going.
 
The impact of the crash caused the police car to crash into a tree.
 
The two officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution. The woman driving the Lexus was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
 
Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor. An investigation is underway.
