Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes 3 Juveniles Riding Bicycles on Planz Road in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 1, 2023) – Three juveniles riding bicycles were hurt in a hit-and-run crash on Planz Road in Bakersfield Sunday evening on July 30.
 
The crash happened around 9:00 p.m. near Benton Street. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the juveniles were traveling east in the two-way left turn storage when a car struck them from behind.
 
After striking them, the car drove way without stopping.
 
First responders found the bicyclists down in the roadway. They transported two of them to a hospital, where one was treated with life-threatening injuries. The other victim only had minor injuries.
 
Police described the suspect vehicle as a brown or gold sedan, possibly a Kia Forte.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing. BPD urged anyone with information to contact them at 661-327-7111.
 
When driving, always pay attention to your surroundings. Obey traffic rules, practice defensive driving and watch out for bicyclists on the road. Also, do not flee the scene when involved in a crash. Immediately stop and call 911.
