Two Women Killed in Multi-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE, CA (July 18, 2022) — Two women died following a multi-car accident on Highway 101 near Mathilda Avenue on Saturday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-car accident happened around 2:45 a.m. For DUI-related reasons, a reportedly impaired driver in a Toyota Prius crashed into another drunk driver operating a Jeep Wrangler. Due to the impact, the Jeep flipped over.

Subsequently, the involved occupants exited the vehicles; however, an oncoming Chevy Camaro struck a 40-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman standing outside the Toyota Prius — the car they had been riding. As a result of the accident, both women died from their injuries.

Following the investigation, authorities arrested the 38-year-old female Jeep driver and 27-year-old male Prius driver on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, officials have yet to release the identities of the fatal victims in this crash. Once we receive more information, we will update this report.
