Car Overturns on Highway 101 in Novato Killing Two Teens and Badly Injuring Three Others
NOVATO, CA (January 2, 2023) – Two teens died in a rollover accident on Highway 101 in Novato late Thursday evening on December 29.
The fatal accident happened around 11:41 p.m. along the northbound highway near Nave Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 16-year-old boy from San Rafael was driving a 2008 Honda Civic when he hit the center divider. The sedan then flipped over the divider into the southbound lanes of the highway.
As a result, both the teen driver and the 17-year-old Novato girl in the rear seat died at the scene.
The Marin County Coroner’s Office withheld the identities of the victims at this time.
Three other teenage passengers, two were not wearing seatbelts, suffered major injuries.
The cause of the crash, which happened during wet road conditions, is still under investigation. CHP officials said impairment does not appear to be a factor.
