According to the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, the two-vehicle accident happened around 9:00 p.m. Monday. To provide security for an inmate receiving hospital care, two deputies from Pitchess Detention Center made their way to the hospital. However, their patrol vehicle collided with a big rig during wet road conditions.
Soon after, paramedics responded to the scene and transported the two deputies to a hospital for treatment. Reports did not specify the severity of their injuries, however.
At this time, authorities are looking into the accident to see what factors led to the crash.
Inclement weather can perpetuate the occurrence of a crash. Be careful when it is wet, foggy or snowy outside. Severe weather increases the danger of traffic collisions. Always move at a safe speed and keep both hands on the wheel. Maintaining a safe following distance also affords you more space and time to respond to traffic.
