2 Hospitalized in Alleged DUI Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande
ARROYO GRANDE, CA (January 13, 2025) — Two people suffered serious injuries in a DUI wrong-way accident on Highway 101 near Grand Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened on January 9. Just after midnight, a DUI driver in a 2008 Ford Ranger was traveling north in the southbound lanes. Subsequently, the Ford collided with a southbound 2009 Jeep Liberty driver head-on.
Both cars came to a stop in the southbound Highway 101 lanes.
Following the crash, the Jeep driver freed himself from the vehicle and was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with major injuries. However, the Ford driver waited for firefighters to remove him from the car. After freeing him, paramedics brought him to Sierra Vista Medical Center with major injuries.
During the investigation, CHP officers determined that alcohol likely played a factor in the crash. If anyone has more to add, call the CHP San Luis Obispo Office at 805-594-8700.
Impaired driving can affect your motor and cognitive functions. One who is inebriated experiences loose inhibitions, which often lead to reckless behavior. Instead of driving drunk, have someone sober drive.
