Lanes Closed after Bakersfield Head-On Accident on Highway 43 near Sullivan Road

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 2, 2024) – Two people sustained injuries in a head-on accident on Highway 43, early Thursday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 28, at about 1:55 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a car crossed over into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a semi-truck.
 
The impact caused the semi-truck to overturn and spill its load onto the road.
 
Emergency crews transported the driver of the car, identified as a 41-year-old woman, to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Updates on her condition remain unknown.
 
As per reports, the 36-year-old semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries. However, it is unknown whether he needed hospitalization.
 
Responders closed affected lanes between Sullivan Road and Kratzmeyer Road until 12:30 p.m. to make way for clearing operations.
 
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
