UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Justin Rodrigues Killed in Car Accident on Highway 101 [San Luis Obispo, CA]

Driver Justin Rodrigues Killed, Sandra Gastelum and Kenneth Rocha Injured in Cuesta Grade Car Accident

 
CUESTA GRADE, CA (April 5, 2022) – One person was killed in a two-car accident on Highway 101 in the Cuesta Grade area of San Luis Obispo on Sunday morning.
 
Officials identified the victim as 18-year-old Justin Rodrigues of Lemoore, according to the California Highway Patrol.
 
The accident happened just after 9:45 a.m. on April 3 near Reservoir Canyon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodrigues drove a 2003 Nissan 350Z heading southbound down the Cuesta Grade when he lost control.
 
Rodrigues crossed into the northbound lane of Highway 101 and was hit by a 2019 Ford Fusion driven by 54-year-old Sandra Gastelum from Santa Maria, according to a news release from the CHP.
 
As a result, Rodrigues died at the scene.
 
Gastelum suffered major injuries in the crash. In addition, Rodrigues’ passenger, 19-year-old Kenneth Rocha, suffered major injuries as well.
 
No arrests have been made at this time. However, the California Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
