16-Year-Old Dies, Teen Driver Injured in Bike Crash on Cecil Avenue in Delano

 
DELANO, CA (October 3, 2023) — A 16-year-old died in a pocket bike accident on Cecil Avenue near Driver Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly bike accident happened around 7:36 p.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, a 17-year-old boy piloting a 2019 Ford at an unknown speed approached the pocket bike rider from the rear and rear-ended the cyclist.
 
Upon impact, the 16-year-old teen was ejected from the bike while the Ford continued to travel northwest before hitting a wooden telephone pole.
 
The teen on the pocket bike suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene. Officials have yet to release his name. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old driver complained of pain and was shuttled to Delano Regional Medical Center. An 18-year-old passenger in the Ford reported no injuries.
 
At this time, CHP officers do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have played a factor in the accident. However, if anyone has additional insight, please call Bakersfield Police.
