12-Year-Old Abel Vasquez Dead, Ignacio Vasquez Charged in DUI Crash on 57 Freeway near Temple Avenue

 
POMONA, CA (October 3, 2023) — Abel Vasquez died in a DUI accident on the 57 Freeway near Temple Avenue on Saturday midnight.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened early Saturday morning. For DUI-related reasons, a 33-year-old father, identified as Ignacio Vasquez, lost control of his 2016 Honda Civic, which left the road.
 
Subsequently, the vehicle crashed into a dirt embankment at a high rate of speed. As a result of the accident, he and his 12-year-old son — Abel Vasquez — suffered major injuries and were sent to a hospital for immediate care. However, despite receiving treatment, Abel passed away.
 
He would have been 13 years old today.
 
According to news reports, the pair was heading home from a concert in celebration of Abel’s birthday.
 
Following the crash, officers arrested Vasquez for driving under the Influence. If anyone has more information, please call the CHP.
