Pedestrian Killed in Multi-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Prunedale
PRUNEDALE, CA (August 30, 2022) — A person was hit and killed in a multi-car accident on Highway 101 at Highway 156 on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal multi-vehicle collision happened around 1:54 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 2002 Lexus became disabled on the southbound lanes of Highway 101.
The driver and his passengers subsequently began to push the car out of the road until a southbound 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 struck the occupants.
Due to the impact, the Lexus driver was thrown onto the roadway where an oncoming on-duty Monterey County sheriff’s officer struck the driver who remained emotionless.
Soon after, paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed the Lexus driver dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, medics tended to one seriously injured Lexus passenger and another one with minor wounds. Two people in the Dodge Ram reported minor injuries and required hospitalization, and the officers reported minor injuries, as well.
At this time, investigators have not released information on the leading factors, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role. However, we will update this report once we receive more information.
