Passenger Suffers Major Injuries in Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on Avenue 42 in Indio

 
INDIO, CA (May 28, 2021) – One person was killed and another one suffered serious injuries in a wrong-way accident on Avenue 42 in Indio.
 
The accident happened a little after 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, just west of Jackson Street. According to the Indio Police Department, a vehicle was traveling the wrong way when it struck a pickup truck head-on. The truck then jolted backward and crashed into a car behind it.
 
As a result, the wrong-way driver suffered significant injuries and died at the hospital. His name was not immediately available.
 
A female passenger in the wrong-way vehicle sustained serious injuries.
 
Paramedics treated several patients at the scene for minor injuries.
 
Crews completely closed the intersection of Avenue 42 and Jackson Street for several hours while they cleared the wreckage. It was partially reopened by early afternoon.
 
It is unknown at this time if speed, drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
