1 Dies, Driver Crashes Into Caltrans Forklift on 210 Freeway in Sylmar

 
SYLMAR, CA (October 24, 2022) — One person died after a car crashed into a Caltrans forklift on the 210 Freeway near Roxford Street.
 
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fatal accident took place around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. For possible DUI reasons, a driver heading westbound on the 210 Freeway collided with a Caltrans forklift.
 
Soon after, firefighter-paramedics freed one person from the wreckage while an occupant was able to crawl out of the car. However, a passenger trapped in the car sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Authorities have not released the man’s name. None of the Caltrans workers on-site suffered any injuries, including the one operating the forklift.
 
In the investigation, authorities learned that the driver ran through traffic pylons and sideswiped the forklift, which sheared off one of the car’s tires. Subsequently, the car continued another 100 yards and slammed into a concrete barrier.
 
At this time, authorities might arrest the individual on suspicion of DUI and possible speeding.
 
Officers released no other information on the accident. Although, we will update this report with more information should we receive any.
