1 Killed, 2 Hurt in 2-Vehicle Crash on 15 Freeway in Barstow

 
BARSTOW, CA (February 19, 2024) — One person died, and two others suffered minor injuries in a 2-car accident on the 15 Freeway near Afton Canyon Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office, the deadly two-vehicle crash happened around 12:47 p.m. Wednesday. For an unknown reason, a 65-year-old Buena Park man trying to pass a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox struck the Chevrolet while merging back into the No. 1 lane.
 
As a result of the collision, the man’s 2002 GMC Sierra lost control, overturned and re-entered the median before coming to a stop. At some point, the driver was fully ejected from the GMC and died later at the scene. Authorities reported that the GMC’s safety restraint system was inactive at the time of the impact.
 
Soon after, paramedics arrived and took a 49-year-old female GMC passenger and the 22-year-old man driving the Chevrolet to a hospital with minor injuries.
 
At this time, traffic investigators do not suspect alcohol to have played a factor in the collision. However, police will confirm the cause, and the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office will identify the victim shortly.
