Hit-and-Run Driver Fatally Strikes Woman and Critically Injures Man in South LA
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (January 17, 2024) – Maria Munoz was killed in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles late Sunday evening on January 14.
The fatal crash happened around 11:35 p.m. on Vermont Avenue at 94th Street. According to Los Angeles Police Department, Munoz and a male pedestrian were walking in a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a speeding silver 2023 Kia Sorento.
After striking them, the driver of the Kia failed to stop and render aid, and later abandoned the car near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 90th Street. The suspect then fled the scene on foot to an unknown location.
Munoz was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 43 years old, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital in critical condition.
A standing reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the city of Los Angeles for information that helps solve this case.
