Dale Pumphrey Identified as Tow Truck Driver Killed in Spring Valley Accident
SPRING VALLEY, CA (January 3, 2024) – Authorities identified 62-year-old Dale Alan Pumphrey of El Cajon as the tow truck driver hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 125, Sunday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on December 31, at about 8:00 p.m. Pumphrey was on the shoulder loading a car onto his flatbed truck. A short time later, a Toyota Prius veered out of the lane, crashed into the tow truck, and hit Pumphrey near Jamacha Road.
Emergency crews pronounced Pumphrey dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota remained and cooperated with investigators.
Responders closed the southbound lanes until 10:25 p.m. to investigate.
CHP ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the fatal accident. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
