Colorado Man Suffers Serious Injuries after Crash with Trailer on Highway 165 in Hilmar

 
HILMAR, CA (June 7, 2023) – A man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 165 south of the town of Hilmar Friday evening on June 2.
 
The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. just north of River Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 53-year-old Martin Sanchez Montes of Firebaugh was driving a tow truck northbound on Highway 165 towing some type of big rig combination.
 
For unknown reasons, the trailer from the vehicle he was towing veered into the southbound lane and collided with a Jeep Wrangler as Montes negotiated a curve in the roadway.
 
As a result, the driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old man from Norwood, Colorado, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
 
Montes remained on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
The CHP said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
