Elderly Woman Suffers Serious Injuries after Struck by Vehicle while Walking on Midway Drive
MIDWAY DISTRICT, CA (May 17, 2023) – A 79-year-old woman was seriously injured in a pedestrian accident on Midway Drive Sunday evening on May 13.
Around 9:30 p.m., the woman was walking in the roadway near the 3500 block of Midway Drive when a 2019 Dodge struck her.
The driver, a 58-year-old man, told police that his attention was drawn to a sign for the Broken Yolk restaurant. When he directed his eyes back to the road, he slammed on the brakes and veered left, but still struck the woman.
The woman hit against the vehicle’s windshield. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital for treatment of a pelvic fracture and laceration to the head.
Officers said the driver was not under the influence at the time of the crash.
The San Diego Police Department is handling the investigation.
