Community Activist Maria Marcelo Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Perrymont Avenue and Little Orchard Street

 
SAN JOSE, CA (December 13, 2022) — A San Jose community activist, Maria Marcelo, died in a pedestrian crash on Wednesday, December 7.
 
The accident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Perrymont Avenue and Little Orchard Street near The Plant Shopping center.
 
According to San Jose police, the pedestrian died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle cooperated with authorities.
 
A post by Mayor Sam Liccardo on Twitter identified 47-year-old Marcelo as the pedestrian. In a tweet, he said, “Maria fought for the health & safety of immigrant families in Washington-Guadalupe & San Jose⁩.”
 
The Santa Clara County coroner confirmed Marcelo’s death.
 
The organization Marcelo founded said that she died while crossing the street in the procession of the Virgen de Juquila.
