Driver Injured After Train Crashes Into Car on Tracks in Santa Clara

 
SANTA CLARA, CA (November 3, 2022) — A driver suffered injuries in a train collision at Martin Avenue and Lafayette Street in Santa Clara on Wednesday morning.
 
According to Amtrak officials, a Capital Corridor train collided with a gray Tesla at about 9:44 a.m. Train 527 was reportedly headed to San Jose from Sacramento.
 
Witnesses said the Tesla driver looked distracted while sitting on the tracks. And then the crossing arm came down on the car, the Tesla driver exited the vehicle, moved the arm off, and then tried to beat the train.
 
The Tesla driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment in a hospital. Amtrak said no one was injured among the six passengers or crewmembers on the train.
 
Meanwhile, roads had to close while the emergency response was ongoing. The area of Martin Avenue and Lafayette Street reopened at around 11:34 a.m.
 
Train tracks and railroad crossings are major safety concerns. Only cross at designated railroad crossings marked by a sign, lights, or a gate. Never rush across as trains may be closer and faster than you think. Patiently wait for the trains to pass, the lights to stop flashing, and the gates to lift before crossing.
