Susanville Motorcycle Crash on Highway 36, Rider Bobby Stanfill and Passenger Cheryl Morrell Hurt

 
SUSANVILLE, CA (October 13, 2022)Bobby Stanfill and Cheryl Morrell were seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Susanville on Monday, October 3.
 
The accident happened around 4:49 p.m. on Highway 36, just east of Fredonyer Summit. Stanfill, a 42-year-old Westwood resident, was riding a Harley Davidson westbound on the highway with 43-year-old Morrell also of Westwood seated behind him. They were traveling east of Fredonyer Summit at a stated speed of 45 mph.
 
Ronald Mccart, a 40-year-old Antelope resident, was driving a 2017 Kia Sedona eastbound on the highway at a stated speed of 50 mph approaching the motorcycle’s location.
 
For unknown reasons, Stanfill was unable to negotiate the right curve in the roadway and crossed over the double parallel yellow lines that separate the eastbound and westbound lanes, and drove directly into the path of the Kia.
 
Stanfill then struck the Kia in the eastbound lane.
 
As a result of the crash, both Stanfill and Morrell were thrown into the roadway. Both suffered major injuries and were flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno. Stanfill suffered a shattered femur and Morrell suffered a compound leg fracture.
 
Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this crash. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
