Rider Suffers Serious Injuries after Struck by Hit-and-Run SUV on 15 Freeway in Escondido

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (July 14, 2022) – A woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle hit-and-run crash on 15 Freeway in Escondido on Tuesday, July 12.
 
The crash happened around 4:10 p.m. near Gopher Canyon Road. According to the CHP, the 27-year-old Temecula woman was riding a red Ducati sport motorcycle between the two left lanes. The driver of a dark SUV suddenly switched lanes ahead of her and cut her off. The motorcycle slammed into the back of the SUV.
 
After the crash, the SUV’s driver continued north without stopping.
 
Paramedics took the injured motorcyclist to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She underwent surgery on Wednesday and remains in a coma.
 
Police said the SUV is possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash. They urged witnesses to call them at 760-643-3400.
