Pilot Dies after Small Plane Crashes on Highway 65 in Porterville

 
PORTERVILLE, CA (June 20, 2022) – A pilot died in a plane crash on Highway 65 in Porterville on Saturday afternoon, June 18.
 
The crash happened around 2:55 p.m. just south of Avenue 120. According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, the Cessna twin-engine plane took off from Porterville Municipal Airport at 2:46 p.m. and lost communication with air traffic controllers around 2:55 p.m.
 
Sheriff’s officials responded and found the small plane which crashed into a ditch. The dry grasses around the ditch caught fire after the crash.
 
The pilot died in the crash. The Tulare County Coroner’s Office withheld the victim’s identify pending family notification.
 
Officials at the FAA tell sister station KSEE in Fresno, the plane’s intended destination was Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in Wisconsin.
 
At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
