Drunk Driver Allegedly Kills Horse and Injures Rider on Delta Road in Knightsen

 
KNIGHTSEN, CA (May 23, 2022) – A horse died while a rider suffered injuries after a DUI accident on Delta Road in Knightsen on Friday evening, May 20.
 
The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. CHP officials said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Delta road with the rider on the horse in front of it. The vehicle then struck the horse, ejecting the rider off onto the shoulder.
 
The rider of the horse suffered major injuries, according to the East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
 
Due to distance, a helicopter took the unidentified rider to John Muir Medical Center for treatment.
 
The horse was killed in the crash.
 
Despite the heavy damage sustained to the right front of the vehicle, the unidentified driver managed to walk away, but in handcuffs, after being arrested for suspicion of DUI.
 
At this time, this accident is still under investigation.
