Rio Vista Driver Dies after Colliding Head-On with Another SUV on Highway 160 along the Delta

 
SOUTH SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (May 2, 2022) – A woman died in a head-on accident on Highway 160 along the Delta in south Sacramento County on Thursday afternoon.
 
The accident happened shortly after 1:00 p.m. on April 28 just south of West Sherman Island Road. CHP officials said a Rio Vista woman was driving a black Saturn SUV south on the highway at 55 mph. At the same time, another Rio Vista woman was driving a silver Kia SUV north on the highway about 55 mph when her car entered a designated left-turn lane to West Sherman Island Road.
 
The Saturn driver allowed her vehicle to cross over the double-yellow lines and into the northbound left turn lane. The Saturn then struck the Kia head-on.
 
As a result, the Kia driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Saturn driver suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital.
 
Both drivers were sole occupants of their vehicles.
 
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once her family has been notified.
 
At this time, an investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
