BOOTJACK, CA (May 2, 2022) – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Highway 49 in the Bootjack area east of Mariposa on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened around 2:40 p.m. on April 28 just north of Peg Leg Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed and was passing other vehicles.

At the same time, a 66-year-old woman driving a 2022 Toyota pickup truck was about to make a left turn into a private driveway. The motorcyclist crashed into the right side of the Toyota as the woman was making the turn.

As a result, the motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and died at the scene. Authorities only described him as a 33-year-old Oakhurst resident. They withheld his identity pending notification of his family members.

Meanwhile, the woman did not sustain any injuries.

CHP said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
