Passenger Dies after Car Crashes into Pole at Cayuga and Effey Streets

 
SANTA CRUZ, CA (March 28, 2022) – A man was killed in a car accident at Cayuga Street and Effey Street in Santa Cruz on Sunday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:45 a.m. on March 27. According to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the man was a passenger in a speeding car that had crashed into a utility pole.
 
Santa Cruz Fire extricated two men, both Santa Cruz County residents, from the car. The 48-year-old passenger died at the scene.
 
Paramedics transported the 38-year-old driver to Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
 
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
