Man Killed after Car Crash on Highway 168 near Auberry Road

AUBERRY, CA (January 3, 2022) — A man died in a car accident on Highway 168 near Auberry Road at around 10:15 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 21-year-old man from Clovis drove Toyota MR2 west on Highway 168. Then he lost control of his vehicle as he tried to drive through a curve in the road.
 
The MR2 went into the eastbound lane of the highway. It went into the path of a Toyota Tacoma traveling in the opposite direction. The Tacoma driver didn’t have enough time to react and adjust his path and crashed into the passenger’s side of the MR2.
 
The driver of the MR2 succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene.
 
The coroner’s office has not released the name of the deceased.
 
Officers continue to investigate what happened. So far they do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
 
That area of the four-lane had been icy and snowy for a few days prior to the crash.
