Border Patrol Pursuit on Otay Lakes Road Kills 1, Leaves 2 Others Badly Injured

 
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA (December 28, 2021) – One person died and two others suffered serious injuries after a Border Patrol pursuit on Otay Lakes Road on Saturday evening.
 
Around 6:06 p.m. on December 25, Border Patrol spotted a black sedan allegedly loading three people into the car while on Otay Mountain. When agents attempted to stop the car, the vehicle sped away down the mountain east of Otay Lakes Road.
 
While trying to escape law enforcement, the driver lost control and slammed head-on into a tree. The three passengers in the car were ejected during the crash.
 
One of the three passengers died at the scene, while two others suffered major injuries, according to Cal Fire.
 
The driver, who was the only person using a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
 
Otay Lakes Road was closed in both directions during the investigation.
