Hayward Big Rig Accident Kills Driver Isaias Hernandez, Badly Injures Passenger

 
HAYWARD, CA (October 11, 2021) – A man died in a semi-truck accident near Tennyson Road and Hesperian Boulevard around 6:08 a.m. in Hayward on October 2, Saturday morning.
 
26-year-old San Mateo resident Isaias Hernandez died following the collision, according to Hayward police and the Alameda County coroner’s bureau. A GoFundMe has been set up to cover expenses.
 
According to the Hayward Police Department, Hernandez drove a car west on Tennyson Road when he broadsided the trailer of the semi-truck that was heading north on Hesperian Boulevard.
 
Hayward firefighters found Hernandez and his passenger, a 25-year-old San Mateo woman, trapped inside the car. They extricated both patients and rushed them to Eden Hospital.
 
Hernandez died at the hospital.
 
The female passenger was in stable condition with major injuries. However, the 51-year-old male driver of the semi-truck was unharmed.
 
Police said they believe alcohol played a role, which remains under investigation. They asked anyone with further information to call Sergeant Tasha DeCosta at 510-293-7169.
