DUI Driver Causes Fiery Crash on Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 20, 2021) – Three people sustained injuries after a DUI accident on Truxtun Avenue in Bakersfield Monday last week.
The accident happened around 7:43 p.m. on July 12, near Westside Parkway. According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a truck was traveling westbound on Truxtun Avenue when it lost control and crossed into the eastbound lanes. It then collided with two other occupied vehicles.
After the crash, the truck overturned and caught fire.
A passerby rescued the driver of the truck, while arriving firefighters extinguished the flames.
All three drivers suffered moderate injuries from the crash. Paramedics transported one of them to a local hospital for treatment.
Police determined that the driver of the truck was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. They arrested him on suspicion of DUI causing injury.
Crews closed the Westside Parkway freeway and Truxtun Avenue in both directions while they cleared the wreckage.
