SANTA MARIA, CA (July 4, 2021) – Paramedics sent three people to the hospital after a head-on crash on Highway 166 on July 2.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at the intersection of Tepusquet Road around 9:00 AM.
 
Based on reports, a GMC was traveling westbound on the highway at about 60 miles per hour. At the same time, a 2004 Porsche was eastbound at unknown speeds. Due to unknown reasons, the GMC turned the vehicle left into the eastbound lanes directly in front of the Porsche. Subsequently, the vehicles collided head-on.
 
The 22-year-old man from Palmdale who was driving the GMC was able to exit the vehicle on his own with moderate injuries. However, the 46-year-old Las Vegas woman who was driving the Porsche and her teen passenger required extrication with major injuries. Paramedics airlifted the 14-year-old boy to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital while the other two were transported by ground ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.
 
Consequently, Caltrans District 5 announced the closure of the highway for rescue and clearing operations.
 
At this point, the cause of the crash is under investigation by CHP.
