Rear-End Accident on 8 Freeway in El Cajon Leaves 1 Driver with Serious Injuries

 
EL CAJON, CA (June 21, 2021) – A man suffered severe injuries after a rear-end accident on 8 Freeway near First Street in El Cajon.
 
The accident happened on Thursday afternoon, June 17. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma westbound on the freeway when a 1994 Chevrolet Astrovan crashed into the back of his pickup.
 
After the impact, the pickup went off the roadway, hit a perimeter fence and rolled into a concrete flood canal, landing on its roof.
 
As a result, the 20-year-old El Cajon man driving the pickup sustained serious injuries. Paramedics took him to a hospital in an unknown condition.
 
Meanwhile, the 64-year-old driver of the Astrovan was treated at the scene for minor injuries and remained cooperative with authorities.
 
Both drivers were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred, the CHP said. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be contributing factors.

At this time, the accident remains under investigation.
