2 Killed in Bakersfield Two-Car Accident on 5 Freeway

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 18, 2021) — Two people died in a two-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Highway 43 Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 11:00 a.m. Under unclear circumstances, a southbound GMC shuttling four people experienced a flat tire. As a result, the GMC overturned several times and ejected two of its occupants — those who weren’t wearing their seatbelts —  from the car.
 
Per reports, one of the victims struck an oncoming Toyota in the northbound lanes upon being ejected.
 
Soon after, emergency personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed two fatalities and four people with minor to major injuries. Due to their injuries, paramedics shuttled two of the patients to Kern Medical.
 
At this point, authorities have not confirmed the ultimate cause of the accident. However, anyone with more information on this crash should contact the CHP.
