Nathaniel Cardenas Killed in Two-Car Accident on Merrill Avenue [Rialto, CA]

Rialto Crash on Merrill Avenue Kills Driver and Seriously Injures 2 Young Children

 
RIALTO, CA (May 4, 2021) – Nathaniel Cardenas was killed in a two-car accident in Rialto early Sunday morning, May 2.
 
The accident happened around 3:51 a.m. on Merrill Avenue south of Cedar Avenue. According to the Rialto Police Department, the 35-year-old Colton man was driving a Mitsubishi eastbound on Merrill Avenue. At the same time, an Audi was traveling south on Cedar Avenue.
 
The Mitsubishi was heading towards a red light while the Audi had a green light, police said. As the Audi was traveling through the intersection, Cardenas allegedly ran the red light and struck the Audi.
 
As a result, Cardenas suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Two children in his car, ages 4 and 8, were seriously injured.
 
Rialto Fire Department paramedics transported the children to a local hospital in unknown conditions.
 
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old driver of the Audi and his 26-year-old passenger were also injured.
