Pedestrian Byungsun Han Dies in Chula Vista Accident

CHULA VISTA, CA (March 1, 2021) — A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Oxford Street near 4th Street Wednesday, February 24.

Coroner’s officials Thursday publicly identified 86-year-old Byungsun Han of Chula Vista who was struck by an SUV as he crossed a roadway in a mobility scooter.

An eastbound Hyundai Santa Fe hit Han at Oxford Street and Oxford Court shortly before 10:00 a.m.

Paramedics took Han to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the accident could take weeks. Complicating the issue, there are conflicting witness reports about whether Han was within a legally considered unmarked crosswalk.

Police do not believe the SUV driver violated any traffic laws at this time.

Although, anyone with information about the accident on Oxford Street should contact the Chula Vista Police.

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Byungsun Han.
