Deputies Shoots and Kills Armed Man after Crash in Bellflower

 
BELLFLOWER, CA (March 20, 2024) – A suspect was fatally shot and a deputy was injured in a crash at Downey Avenue and Artesia Boulevard in Bellflower on Tuesday evening.
 
Just before 10:00 p.m. on March 19, deputies from the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station responded to a call from a Lakewood home of a restraining order violation. Deputies began following the suspect who violated a restraining order.
 
As a deputy cruiser pulled behind the suspect’s orange muscle car at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Downey Avenue, the suspect accelerated in reverse, backing his car on top of the cruiser.
 
The suspect then got out of his car and charged deputies with a knife. That was when deputies shot and killed him.
 
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
One deputy was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

A knife was recovered at the scene, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
