Family Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Santa Fe Avenue in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, CA (April 23, 2024) — A family of three was injured in a wrong-way accident on Santa Fe Avenue near Las Flores Drive.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the wrong-way crash happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a blue Honda SUV driver was traveling in the wrong direction on the eastbound lanes of Santa Fe Avenue. Subsequently, the Honda crashed into a red Honda SUV and a white Toyota car.

Soon after, paramedics responded and took a 24-year-old father and a 22-year-old mother — both red Honda occupants — to Palomar Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics transported their child to Rady Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure. As for the 46-year-old Toyota driver, paramedics evaluated the individual at the scene and took the 29-year-old wrong-way motorist to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with major non-life-threatening wounds.

At this time, authorities are looking into alcohol as a possible explanation. If anyone has seen this crash, please call the CHP.
