1 Dies After Wrong-Way Crash on 8 Freeway in La Mesa

 
LA MESA, CA (May 20, 2024) — A wrong-way driver was hit and killed after trying to flee an accident on the 8 Freeway near Fletcher Parkway.
 
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the deadly wrong-way accident happened around 11:41 p.m. Saturday. For an unknown reason, a driver of a white Chevrolet truck began driving westbound in the eastbound lanes. Subsequently, the wrong-way driver collided with a Honda Accord, two miles west of Fletcher Parkway.
 
From there, the Chevrolet driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. However, while trying to cross the westbound lanes, a driver of a black Ford struck him.
 
Soon after, paramedics arrived and took the Honda driver to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of major injuries. Neither the Ford driver nor his female passenger reported any injuries.
 
As for the wrong-way motorist, he passed away from severe injuries. The coroner is not release the individual’s name. Although alcohol has been ruled out on the Honda and Ford driver’s part, authorities are looking into the condition of the Chevrolet motorist.
