Pedestrian Dies after Struck by DUI Hit-and-Run Driver near North B Street and Dos Rios Street

 
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 23, 2025) – A woman was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash near North B Street and Dos Rios Street in Sacramento on Wednesday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened just before 8:00 p.m. on February 19. According to the Sacramento Police Department, 62-year-old Steven Joseph Read of Sacramento was driving a vehicle when he struck the female pedestrian.
 
After striking the victim, Read fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
The woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was not yet identified.
 
Authorities later found Read early Thursday morning and arrested him. They booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
 
Read faces three felony charges including driving under the influence, driving under the influence within 10 years of a prior felony and a hit-and-run involving a death.
 
His bail is set at $1 million, and he is expected to appear Friday afternoon in Sacramento County Superior Court.
