Fatal Early Morning Pedestrian Accident on 8 Freeway in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (March 4, 2021) – A woman died early Tuesday morning in a pedestrian accident on 8 Freeway in El Cajon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the initial crash happened around 2:50 a.m., March 2, near North First Street.
The victim, a 20-year-old San Diego woman, was driving a 2003 Toyota Matrix on the eastbound highway when she lost control for unknown reasons. Her car then struck the concrete center wall and ended up disabled in the right lane of the freeway.
After the crash, the Toyota driver got out and stood near her car in the right lane. A short time later, a 2002 Infiniti G35 coupe, driven by a 24- year-old San Diego man, slammed into the disabled Toyota, which then struck the woman.
The impact thrown the victim into the left lane on the eastbound freeway. While lying in the roadway, two additional vehicles also hit her.
First responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Authorities did not release the victim’s identity pending next of kin notification.
Meanwhile, the Infiniti suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
