Woman Walking on Highway 101 in Nipomo Fatally Struck by Car
NIPOMO, CA (September 12, 2022) – A woman was hit and killed by a car on Highway 101 in Nipomo on Saturday evening, September 10.
The fatal crash happed shortly before 7:00 p.m. just south of Tefft Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was trying to cross the northbound lanes of the highway.
A 21-year-old driver of a Toyota Prius from Santa Monica was heading northbound on the highway at approximately 70 mph when the vehicle in front of him swerved to the right.
The driver of the Prius saw the pedestrian in front of him and tried to swerve to the left. The woman ran towards the median, to the west, and the right front of the Toyota struck the pedestrian
As a result, the victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was not yet identified.
The driver was not arrested at this time, but an investigation is underway.
