Driver Killed, Man Hospitalized in DUI High-Speed Crash on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek

WALNUT CREEK, CA (August 2, 2024) — An 18-year-old woman died in a DUI high-speed accident on Ygnacio Valley Road near Civic Drive.

According to police, the solo vehicle crash happened around 1:00 a.m. Thursday. For DUI reasons, an 18-year-old woman driving a car at a high rate of speed lost control. Subsequently, the vehicle crossed a center divider and struck a power pole, ejecting her from the car.

Her passenger, a man, exited the car and told police they had been drinking. Police also learned the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The woman passed away from severe injuries. After the crash, police closed Ygnacio Valley Road due to the power pole that toppled across the roadway. PG&E crews also responded to the scene to repair the damage.

Police have not confirmed the precise events of the accident but believe DUI and speed factored into the cause.
