Police Chase Ends in Crash in Moreno Valley Killing One and Injuring Three Others, DUI Suspect Arrested
MORENO VALLEY, CA (March 30, 2024) – Villalon Ramirez was killed when a police chase ended in a crash in Moreno Valley early Thursday morning on March 28.
According to the CHP, the chase began just after 1:00 a.m. at Perris and Sunnymead boulevards. A patrol unit observing the intersection spotted a Kia K900 shooting through a steady red traffic signal without its headlights on.
The officers initiated a traffic enforcement stop. Instead of slowing down, the driver accelerated to 90 mph and driving in a reckless manner through various streets.
While racing down the 25000 Gentian Avenue, the Kia driver lost control and collided with two parked vehicles.
As a result of the crash, three passengers in the Kia became trapped inside the car.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded and rushed the passengers to Riverside University Medical Center with major injuries.
Ramirez, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the hospital an hour later. He was 19 years old of Moreno Valley.
Authorities identified the driver as 19-year-old Steven Israel Corona, also from Moreno Valley.
Corona was unharmed in the crash. He was later arrested and booked into jail. Officers determined during the check he was allegedly alcohol-impaired.
An investigation is ongoing. CHP officers asked witnesses to call them at 951-637-8000.
