DUI Suspect and Red Light Runner Causes Crash on Belmont Avenue in Fresno Killing Two People

 
FRESNO, CA (January 8, 2025) – Two people were killed in a DUI crash at Belmont Avenue and Palm Avenue in central Fresno on Monday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:18 p.m. on January 6. According to the Fresno Police Department, 36-year-old Joal Campbell was driving a black small truck westbound on Belmont Avenue without its headlights on.
 
As Campbell approached the red light, failed to stop and ran through the intersection. He then crashed into a gold truck that was heading northbound on Palm Avenue.
 
The impact of the crash caused the gold truck to overturn. It then came to rest at a nearby gas station.
 
Both the passenger and driver of the gold truck were killed in the crash, one at the scene and the other at the hospital. They were not yet identified.

Campbell was injured and taken to the hospital. Police later arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI.

An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
