Small Plane Crashes and Flips near Santa Monica Pier Injuring 2 People
SANTA MONICA, CA (December 26, 2022) – Two people were hospitalized in a small plane crash near Santa Monica Pier Thursday afternoon on December 22.
The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. at the 1800 block of Ocean Front Walk. According to reports, the single-engine Cessna 150 plane crash-landed and flipped over the beach.
Two people were onboard the aircraft when the pilot reported engine issues after taking off from the Santa Monica Airport.
Both occupants needed to be rescued from the downed plane, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division.
Rescuers took the pilot and passenger to a hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
