Plane Crashes into Field near Horseshoe Bend Road in Columbia Sending Man and Woman to Hospital

COLUMBIA, CA (January 27, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized in a plane crash near Horseshoe Bend Road in Columbia on Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. on January 23. According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, a Cessna 172 had crashed nose-down in a field.

When deputies and crews from other agencies arrived, they found the plane with one person trapped inside.

Deputies said a woman was able to climb out of the plane, but fire crews had to extract the man from the plane.

Both the man and woman were flown to out-of-area hospitals with unspecified injuries.

Due to a fuel leak and the risk of a fire, the fire department deployed hose lines over 700 feet to ensure the safety of the patients and responders.

The sheriff’s office said outside agencies will investigate the cause of the crash.
